The Shawnee PTSA attended the Indiana State PTA convention this past weekend. What a great weekend we all had! A Special thanks goes to Melonie, Chris & Kristen Cawvey; Kelly Cumberland and Vanessa Sheckler for attending! Special congratulations to Chris Grinstead the Indiana PTA Outstanding Teacher of Year and Shawnee for winning the Indiana PTA Outstanding Website Award! We also won many other membership, citizenship, and unit awards. Way to go Braves!!!

Welcome to the Shawnee PTSA website! Our PTSA is a vital organization that helps to build a sense of community at Shawnee and offers opportunities for students and families to interact and find a place to “belong” to a great school. We work hard at enhancing your child’s learning experience at Shawnee while providing our parents information that allows them to get involved in a productive and positive way.
Programs the Shawnee PTSA sponsors include: Staff Appreciation Week (first week of May), Muffins with Mom, Donuts with Dad, the Student/Staff Volleyball Game & Dance, the Student/Staff Basketball Game & Dance, a can drive competition with Lincoln, the Washington D. C. trip, and 8th grade Semi-formal, Shawnee Community Dinners, and more. If you have ideas for any new programs or events for Shawnee, please share them! Always feel free to join a PTSA meeting, reply to an email, and show your support by joining the PTSA. Everyone’s ideas are appreciated as work continues to build this PTSA and support Shawnee!

Membership Update
We finished with 273 members: Up from 43 in 2008-2009 and up from 144 last year. We are very pleased with the numbers, but the importance of this is the number of people who we are keeping informed of events and opportunities at our school and spirit we hope we are bringing to Shawnee with informed and involved parents.
We got word yesterday that we are one of eleven finalists in the state for Outstanding Membership Campaign of the Year for Indiana PTA. This is a credit to all of you! I am filling out our Membership Awards form and we will win a Gold Oak Leaf Award (for 50% growth); 100% Teacher/Principal Membership (actually 100% of ALL staff joined!); 25 or more Family and Friends Members; Membership increase of 25 members; and Maintaining Last Year’s Membership.
Thank you all for your support of Shawnee PTSA this year! We truly appreciate the people who took the time to join and support our efforts! Today is a proud day for Shawnee PTSA and Shawnee Middle School!
Why Legislation Alerts?
The work we do to advocate for all children is simply the most important job we have! We will keep you posted through the weekly email as issues arise and we encourage you to follow what is happening in Indianapolis at the State House and in DC at the Capitol! One of the best things you can do is go to the PTA Takes Action Center so you can be informed immediately if an issue comes up. This is also a really easy way to contact your federal legislators. Skating Party
What a GREAT night at Roller Dome North!!! we had 118 in paid attendance this evening including 35 (!) 5th graders from our feeder schools - inviting the 5th graders was one of our best ideas all year! Congrats to Mr. Grinstead for winning the $30.00 gift card - again! Thank you to Mrs. Wall and staff - you all are terrific! It was so much fun - watch for pictures soon on our Facebook page!!!
